What does a typical day at work look like?

I start by processing all sales and purchase invoices, as well as the banking records. Then I take a look at the work in progress and update sales forecasts.

How did you get into your role? What made you want to become an Accountant?

I was pretty good with numbers and enjoyed business studies at school, so was lucky when I left to get a job in a company that gave me day release to study for my accountancy qualification. I spent a fair bit of time as a Group Accountant for a PLC, travelling to companies overseas that I thoroughly enjoyed.

What would you say is the best thing about your job?

I enjoy working with small companies and the best thing about my job is the people I work with and being able to help them with the company’s financial decisions.

Any advice for someone wanting to become an Accountant

If someone wanted to work in Industry I would recommend working and studying as I did as you gain so much more experience that really helps!

What do you like to do outside of work?

I spend most of my spare time looking after my horse, Kyle. My days of going out competing are over now but I have recently joined the riding club and we are enjoying going on trail rides and enjoying our beautiful countryside.

Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t know from reading your CV?

We used to keep chickens at home and when the children were younger, we had an incubator and we bred lots of little chicks. It was so lovely!

When you’re in charge of the office music, what is your go-to playlist?

I love Reggae music!

What is your favourite font and why?

Not sure I have a favourite font, I work with numbers!

If you could spend the day with any cartoon character, who would it be?

Minnie Mouse.
